Salaryman

We’re staying in a business district of Tokyo – Maranouchi, and tonight there we’re white-c0llar business men, or Sararīman (salaryman), everywhere sitting at bars or ramen and tempura cafes. Without exception they wore white shirts, dark ties and knee length pea coats. It was cold out tonight, yet we saw tables of these businessmen sitting outside either covered in (see photo) or just at a table in front of restaurants. Salarymen work notoriously long, long hours and are expected to take part in afterwork leisure activities. Karōshi, or death from overwork is another popular notion surrounding salarymen.
