The Nozomi Shinkansen
Traveling on the Nozomi
We just arrived in Kyoto from one and a half days in Takayama – a beautiful little town in the mountains in central Japan – Chuba region (little in this case is 89,000 people – its all relative in a country of 127 million people within 378,000 km² compared to Alberta at 662,000 km²!) . So it was a whirlwind trip with no time for blogging. We traveled the last leg of the journey to Kyoto by the famous Nozomi Shinkansen – their fastest bullet train. It can reach 300 kpm’s (although I don’t know if the area where we were traveling allowed for that top speed. The first video below, for comparison, is the Hida Wideview train. Like the name implies, it has huge windows and great views, but it travels much more slowly – which was great while passing through beautiful mountain regions. The views were spectacular! The other three videos feature the Nozomi. In the last two compare how you would see things pass from your when you’re driving 100 kmph in a car.
